The origins
Raffaele and Donata Vertullo’s dream
The pioneers
The Cascata Lido & Village was founded around 1960, based on the vision of Raffaele Vertullo and Donata Paolillo, the first couple to invest in local seaside tourism.
Raffaele, known as the King of Tufa for being the largest supplier to the Sele plain, built the first dirt road along the Via Linora using his own equipment and travertine quarry residue.
The birth of a dream
The first lido was built with wooden structures secured to a platform a few meters above the ground using stilts.
Later, residences were built behind the lido.
The name Cascata (Waterfall) was also born at this time, chosen because during the 1960s, a small artificial waterfall flowed near the lido, providing hydroelectric power.
The 60s and 70s
The Cascata Lido was an immediate success.
During the summer season, dance evenings were organized, a unique event in the area.
The project didn’t stop during the warmer months, but continued into the winter, when the Cascata Lido hosted weddings and ceremonies.
The Lido’s popularity attracted celebrities such as Caterina Caselli, Peppino di Capri, Oreste Lionello, and film producer Manolo Bolognini.
